Novel Strategies to Enhance Neural Repair Emphasis on Intranasal Delivery of Therapeutics to the CNS to Promote the Regenerative Process
1) Neural Repair: The field of neural regeneration has been growing exponentially in the last two decades.Previously, it was generally held that there was virtually no regeneration or possibility for regeneration in the central nervous system (CNS).This notion has changed as recent studies have demonstrated that CNS regeneration and repair is possible.
The general public and even many scientists, physicians, and other health professionals are not aware of recent evolutionary changes in the field of CNS repair. It is important to keep this audience apprised of the tremendous progress being made in the field of neural repair.Millions of patients around the world are suffering from intractable diseases of the CNS; hence, it becomes crucial to raise awareness about these diseases and the strategies used to induce the brain and spinal cord to regenerate when they are affected by such disorders.Increasing health awareness across various sectors of the population and health care community enhances research progress and eventually lead to reduced incidence, morbidity and mortality of these disorders.
2) Intranasal Delivery of Therapeutics to the Central Nervous System:
There have been numerous research studies done in recent years to investigate the possibility of delivering therapeutics (biomolecules and cells) to the central nervous system (CNS).Through these studies, it has been confirmed that various agents can be delivered effectively through the roof of the nose to the brain and cervical spine using the extracellular route. This means intranasal delivery of therapeutics bypasses the blood brain barrier (BBB).This method has several advantages: first, enabling many biomolecules that cannot cross BBB to be delivered to the CNS; second, saving the consumer untoward side effects that take place when drugs are given systemically; and third, lowering the cost of therapeutics as, in many cases, the dose of the agent would be less than when given via different routes.Accordingly, the main goal of this conference is to raise awareness about this alternative route and its benefits to the consumer, the manufacturer, and the national economy. In addition, we will discuss recent research studies demonstrating the various therapeutics that can be delivered intranasally to the CNS; many of which are used to regenerate the CNS.
